Richard L. Root, age 75, of Eau Claire, passed away, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at his home. He was born August 3, 1937 in Rice Lake, the son of Archie and Olive (Doherty) Root.

Richard was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School. He served over twenty years in the U.S. Navy as a dispersing clerk. Following his military service, he continued his schooling at the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he received a degree in accounting. Richard worked for twenty years as an accountant for the State of Wisconsin in the IRS department. He retired to Eau Claire.

He is survived by two brothers, Robert Root of Washburn and Bill Root of Ashland; a sister, Carol Heffner of Kaukauna; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 8 brothers, Keith, Dale, Gale, Dale, Johnny, Kenneth, Don and Chester; and two sisters, Shirley and Betty.

Services will be held later this spring.
